Sign Up for Emergency Training!

Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton sponsoring free CERT Training at Jericho Fire Department Headquarters

Sign up now for a FREE local Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training courses that the Legislator is sponsoring and organizing in the north and south parts of the 18th Legislative District. This gives residents the opportunity to become qualified responders in an emergency.

The first CERT Training series will be held at Jericho Fire Department Headquarters on North Broadway. The training is six consecutive Monday nights – June 4, 11, 18, 25 and July 2 and 9.

The CERT Program is a federally funded course that educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

To register for the June session, or find out more, call the Office of the 18th LD at 571-6218 or email DDeRiggiWhitton@NassauCountyNY.gov. Find out more about CERT Training at http://www.nassaucountyny.gov/agencies/OEM/CC/CERT/faq.html.
