LIPA warns don’t stay home and wait for power as snow hits

I have been pushing our government contact for information on which homes will be in the “90 %” that they have been saying will be restored today, Wednesday. As the snow is starting, I said that people shouldn’t wait at home for power (and heat) that never come on.

LIPA then advised me that people “err on the side of caution” because they will not be restoring all the homes as the scheduled. So, if you have somewhere to stay, rather than waiting to see if power gets turned on tonight, they recommended making other arrangements.

LIPA did tell my office today that they had a large number of workers throughout the district, especially in Glen Cove, Glen Head and Brookville and had many in Jericho and Bayville earlier yesterday. However, they can’t guarantee that each home will be back tonight as planned due to this new storm.
