Requesting Emergency Vote for West Shore Road Repairs

Thank you to our Legislative caucus leader, Minority Leader Kevan Abrahams for helping our district. He is requesting to the acting Presiding Officer that we vote on West Shore Road repairs at our next Legislative session this Monday as an emergency. He wrote to the acting Presiding Officer:

Hon. Norma L. Gonsalves

Acting Presiding Officer

Nassau County Legislature

1550 Franklin Avenue

Mineola, NY 11501

Re:  Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts – Special meeting of Rules Committee

Dear Norma,

Given the gravity of the situation facing many of our communities following Hurricane Sandy, I hereby request that you schedule a special meeting of the Rules Committee for Monday November 19th. This should be done in order to expeditiously pass any items which the Administration may file or ask to be untabled which are related to storm recovery whether they be for Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant malfunctions or West Shore Road in Mill Neck, portions of which collapsed into Oyster Bay Harbor during the storm causing the road to be closed indefinitely.

As you will recall, the contracts related to West Shore Road were already on the Rules agenda on July 23rd of this year when they were tabled by the Republican Majoirty and need only be untabled at this time so that repair work may be immediately started so the road may be re-opened to school buses, emergency vehicles and regular traffic.  They are clerk items B-30-12, E-168-12 and E-171-12.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this request.

I just wanted to relay my concern about the amount of time it will take for West Shore Road to be reopended, especially b/c i feel there are safety issues with there only be 1 way in/out of Bayville and we have no idea what’s in store for us weather wise with the upcoming winter. I appreciate your perserverience in getting this issues addressed expeditiously, and look forward to hearing the outcome of your meeting this evening. Best wishes, Dawn Burnett, Bayville Resident
