Wall Street Journal – Delia talks Questionable Post-Sandy Spending

Delia in the Wall Street Journal – talks Sandy contract questions:

– “The events surrounding Looks Great Services began to unfold three weeks after Sandy struck. Delia DeRiggi-Whitton, a freshman Democratic Nassau County legislator, questioned why a Looks Great subcontractor cut down 144 trees in a nature preserve during the busy period of storm cleanup on Long Island.
Looks Great responded by saying that the trees taken down were identified by county employees and consultants who accompanied the subcontractor on the job.

“But Ms. DeRiggi-Whitton said she had trouble getting information about the tree contract—including whether the workers were from out of state— from the county administration. She introduced a bill last week to establish a public online database with detailed information about how emergency funds are spent.

“It’s a culmination of these events,” Ms. DeRiggi-Whitton said. “I’m not satisfied with our checks and balances the way they are.”
