Frozen Hempstead Harbor Turns Polar Plunge into “Polar Spray.”

Leg. DeRiggi-Whitton visited Hempstead Harbor Beach Park on March 7 to  root on the participants of the Town’s 11th Annual Polar Plunge. The event’s slogan, Freezin’ for a Reason, is even more appropriate this year than most!

The purpose of the event is to generate thousands of dollars for the Special Olympics. But, because the Harbor was still frozen, they couldn’t “plunge” into the icy water. So, thanks to the Port Washington Fire Department, all the bathing suit clad would-be plungers instead enjoys a “polar spray.”

Delia cheered everyone on from the sidelines along with the Town’s Receiver of Taxes Charles Berman and Deputy Commissioner of Community Affairs Gina Sillitti.

Afterwards, Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and Delia got a big laugh out of the polar plunge artwork Town Safety Coordinator Tom McDonough donned for the event.

Congratulations and thanks to all participants, especially Mitch Schwartz, whose Port Washington Chamber of Commerce team raised the most money of all the teams organized.
