National Police Week

May 12, 2025

It's #NationalPoliceWeek in America - a perfect time to give thanks for Nassau's #TopCops.

Last fall, Officers Joseph Stassi, Giuseppe Alagna and Michael Verde rushed to a capsized vessel in the Long Island Sound near Hempstead Bay. The officers quickly rescued the four passengers, one of whom was without a lifejacket. On April 23, it was our pleasure to thank Officers Alagna and Verde - and the family of Officer Stassi, who tragically passed away on March 14 - for a job  well done.

Skin Cancer Awareness Month

May 5, 2025

2025 05 02 Skin Cancer Screening 0952 Peter Budraitis PhotoToday is #MelanomaMonday - a key part of May's observance as both Skin Cancer Awareness Month and Melanoma Awareness Month. In that spirit, I am especially proud of our community for making last Friday's skin cancer screening event - where over 65 people got checked at the Glen Cove Senior Center - so successful!
Skin cancer is highly treatable - and early detection is key. Thank you to Dr. Eve Lupenko and Greenberg Cosmetic Surgery & Dermatology for stepping up!

Eva Casale Completes 7 Marathons in 7 Days

May 5, 2025

On Saturday, I had the honor of joining the #GlenCove community in welcoming an absolute iron woman home! Eva Casale once again completed seven marathons in seven days to raise funds and awareness for our veterans through her TEAM EVA - Every Veteran Appreciated! campaign. I salute you for your unwavering commitment to the men and women who served our nation!

Congratulations to GlenCove varsity softball on 50 amazing years!

May 2, 2025

Playing softball in high school was an amazing experience, and it was wonderful reminiscing with the alumni last Saturday and seeing the current generation of outstanding young athletes who are leading the softball program into an exciting future under the leadership of Coach Kimberly Kessel and her team.
Thank you for all of the memories – and here’s to another 50 years!

Happy ArborDay from the Village of Baxter Estates!

May 1, 2025

I was glad to be on hand this morning as Mayor Nora Haagenson and her outstanding team continued their wonderful community tradition. With warmer temperatures (finally!) starting to set in and we're enjoying more of nature's beauty, it's a wonderful reminder that it's always a great time to protect the natural treasures around us.

Nassau County Police Department 100th Anniversary Parade

April 27, 2025

Happy 100th Birthday to the Nassau County Police Department! On Sunday, my fellow caucus members and I joined thousands in downtown Wantagh for a centennial celebration that won't soon be forgotten. Thank you to everyone who came out to back the blue and honor an amazing milestone - we are thankful to you all for your unwavering commitment to serving and protecting the people of Nassau County.

MAJOR VICTORY FOR OUR FIRST RESPONDERS

2025 04 24 imbLegislative Democrats prevailed in their fight to secure $1.3 million in grants for first responders in districts represented by Democrats - funds that County Executive Blakeman held up for over a year.
By standing united, our caucus forced Blakeman to end his partisan blockade and serve all of our communities equitably. We won’t back down when we’re fighting for our constituents and the people who step up to serve and protect them.

Long-Awaited Grant for Downtown Sounds

2025 01 Downtown SoundsThis fall, Delia secured a long-awaited $7,000 Hotel-Motel Occupancy Tax Fund grant for the Glen Cove Business Improvement District and its beloved Downtown Sounds concert series.

“Although this grant took more effort than usual to secure, I am already looking forward to applying for an additional grant for next season’s shows. I am thankful to my colleagues in the Democratic Minority Caucus for standing with me to ensure that communities across our County receive their fair share of resources,” she said.
