We had such a great time seeing all of these precious kids getting ready for back to school!
Glen Cove Schools — "A huge THANK YOU Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton, the Nassau County PBA, Glen Cove PBA, and our school administration for their generous support during our annual backpack giveaway!
Thanks to your dedication and partnership, hundreds of our local students are stepping into the new school year confident, prepared, and excited to learn. We are so grateful to be part of such a caring community.
Here’s to an amazing school year ahead!"

Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton has secured nearly $465,000 in Community Revitalization Project grants for three Port Washington-area projects, including funding for the Port Washington Public Library, an accessible playground in the Village of Port Washington North and preservation work at the Thomas Dodge Homestead.

"When the County Executive’s gubernatorial campaign finance chair is the co-founder of the very law firm receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars in county contracts, and the County Executive himself was once a partner at that firm, the administration has a heightened responsibility to prove the selection was based on merit—not political relationships.
Instead, we’re told to accept a so-called ‘mini-bid’ process with no public scoring, no published evaluation criteria, and no explanation of why this firm was selected over six others. That’s exactly the kind of opaque process that can create opportunities for corruption and undermine public confidence. In my opinion, the circumstances surrounding these contracts warrant a thorough independent investigation.
If this contract was truly awarded on merit, then publish the scoring, publish the evaluation criteria, and let taxpayers see the evidence for themselves.”

Living on the beautiful North Shore is an incredible privilege, and something we all cherish- but something that can often get forgotten is the history of hard, dangerous work that the baymen have done here on Long Island for hundreds of years to support their families and feed their communities.
After the passing of Bayman Michael Kennedy in 2020 on the water, his parents and friends, with the invaluable work of the
Baymens Heritage Association, worked to commission a monument to honor the past and present of the people who have defined our area for generations. In 2022, right in our community, we tragically lost another neighbor, Tony Capozolli, shellfishing off of Tappan Beach in Sea Cliff.
Yesterday, this long overdue monument was unveiled at Theodore Roosevelt Park in Oyster Bay, and I was deeply honored to be able to attend to recognize this occasion.
When we think of our beautiful communities along the North Shore, we most often think of the picturesque views, unrivaled sunsets, and the memories we have built in this beautiful slice of home. But this area, and these waters, have an equally storied history, and that story was written above all else by the Baymen. Doing the dangerous work on the water, bringing the food we all enjoy back to land- and being pillars of their community, one that we inherit today.
Next time, whether you’re taking a stroll along the beach, out on a boat, or just driving along one of our so many scenic roads, I encourage you to reflect on the incredible history we have right here in our community, and the work that so many of our neighbors still do to this day, in all kinds of weather and conditions. I am grateful that we now have this fantastic memorial to commemorate this so often forgotten group. Thanks to the Baymen’s Heritage Association, the Kennedy family, and everyone else involved in this incredible project.
On Friday, City of Glen Cove Office of the Mayor and I will be holding a press conference at Crescent Beach to announce that after 17 losing years, Crescent Beach will once again be open for swimming- and we would love for YOU to join us to mark this special occasion!
Crescent Beach is a staple of our Glen Cove community, where I myself once taught swimming lessons! Generations of our neighbors have made and shared memories here, and Friday marks the opportunity for a new generation to experience this beautiful treasure right in our backyard.
I would like to thank the Mayors of Glen Cove, who for 17 years, regardless of party, have all worked to make this day possible, along with my colleagues from the Glen Cove city council, and now at the Nassau County Legislature. This collaborative effort would not have been complete, though, without the cooperation and investment of the local residents around Crescent Beach, who were instrumental in helping make the improvements necessary to combat the runoff issue that has plagued us for so long.
This is a personally impactful day for me, as a Glen Cove resident, former lifeguard and city councilwoman, and as a Legislator for Glen Cove, that we have been able to bring this beautiful piece of our community back to a state all of our residents can truly fully enjoy, for this summer and so many to come. I hope to see you all this Friday to mark this fabulous occasion!

This morning, members of the Minority Caucus joined with their colleagues in law enforcement and government to pay tribute to the Corrections officers who were killed in the line of duty or lost their lives while in active service to the Sheriff’s department.
Thank you to the Nassau County Sheriff's Office, leaders of Nassau Coba and the Correction Officers Benevolent Association Widow's & Children's Fund for hosting a dignified and beautiful ceremony that ensures the hard work and sacrifices made by these brave men and women will always be remembered.
